I’ve been researching for 3rd Sector’s daily tweet and came across this.
The NSPCC first came into being in 1889. The story of how it came to be is interesting, but too long to include here. But the bizarre fact is that the first child cruelty case in Britain was brought by the RSPCA – the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to ANIMALS.
Why? Because at that time there were no laws to protect children from cruelty, but there were laws to protect animals. In order to fight this case, the child in question was designated as “a small animal”
Now I know I’ve referred to my kids as animals at times, mostly in fun, but this is taking it a bit far.
